ONTARIO'S BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT AREAS HONOUR
THE ST. LAWRENCE MARKET NEIGHBOURHOOD BIA
AT ANNUAL AWARD CEREMONY

(April 1, 2009, Toronto, Ont) - The Ontario Business Improvement Area Association (OBIAA) and Toronto Association of BIAs (TABIA) Business Improvement Area presented their annual awards at the 2009 National BIA conference held at the Delta Chelsea in Toronto on Tuesday March 31st, 2009. The St. Lawrence market Neighbourhood BIA took top honours in the category of the Green Award for the Watering Cart Program. The ceremony honours winners for their efforts in promoting their downtowns.

"The Awards Committee was extremely impressed with the quality of the submissions this year," said OBIAA Awards Committee Chair, Rob Hunter, Executive Director of Downtown Brockville BIA. "“The awards program allows local communities to see just how they stack up against other downtowns when it comes to promoting themselves as a destination."

Al Smith, Executive Director of the St. Lawrence Market Neighbourhood BIA was on hand to accept the award during the Annual Conference of the Ontario Business Improvement Area Association (OBIAA) that was held jointly this year with the Toronto Association of BIAs (TABIA). "It is an honour to accept this award as the competition is very solid" stated Al Smith. "Winning in this program demonstrates effectiveness in our efforts."

Partnerships - Citizens Bank presents a cheque to the BIA at the Toronto Dollar Party at Customer Appreciation Night 2008 at the St. Lawrence Market, with the Silent Rider cart in view.
The Watering Cart - Bob Kemp drives the electric cart and watering trailer, sponsored by Citizen's Bank.
Watering the Trees - The watering wand pumps 20 litres of water per tree.
Inside the Cart - The watering machine holds 40 gallons of water. Grey water will be used in this program where possible.

Representing over a hundred member organizations, OBIAA supports and encourages member business improvement areas to increase their effectiveness and their contribution to the economic and social well being of communities in Ontario.

The Toronto Association of Business Improvement Areas (TABIA) is a non-profit umbrella organization working with 68 Business Improvement Areas within the City of Toronto who in turn represent more than 27,000 business & property owners.
