Situated East of Parliament Street between Queen Street East and Front Street, Corktown was named in honour of County Cork by the original Irish settlers who populated this area in the 1800's and worked in the local distilleries and brickyards. Corktown is home to many historical buildings including the first Roman Catholic Church St. Paul's Basilica and the first "free" school, Enoch Turner Schoolhouse. This friendly community features eclectic jazz bars, restaurants and shops.
